I am a new member to your forum. My name is John and my user name is johnnyspin. I am a recently retired Ironworker and now have the time to work on some of my projects. I have always been a GM loyalist and have owned and still own many GM vehicles. I have always been interested in TBI systems and what it would take to adapt them to older carbuerated vehicles or get them to operate at the most basic level. What I mean by that is getting an engine to run with only the sensors and wiring necessary to make it run. I have a 1989 K1500 4x4 automatic with a 4.3v6 non A/C which I want to put a CJ7 body on. This means I will only need the wiring and sensors to make the engine run. This is for an off road application on my ranch. I will be using all mechanical guages and no speedometer. Has anyone done anything like this?

:welcome:

I think many of us here at gearhead-efi started with a simplified TBI system, which I think is a good place to start learning EFI. The cost of an aftermarket TBI harness has become more affordable than in years past, which makes time vs. cost something to consider.

I think a good place to start learning TBI is coming up to speed with TunerPro RT, which allows someone edit the PROM chip file (.bin file) and data log.

I did something similar. I had an S-10 with a 4.3 and put a '51 Ford Panel body on top of it. I ended up being able to use the complete engine and chassis harness pretty much as-is, so it made for a very easy swap.

Thank you dave w and fastaction for your replies. Dave w, do you know who sells aftermarket harnesses at a reasonable price? What is TunerPro RT?
