Hi, I have to learn to tune.
1992 Blazer K1500 4x4, fresh 5 speed conversion, fresh 6.2L 1pc seal, RamJet cam, Vortec heads, 1416299 ECM, 1.930" TBI, 65# INJ, Tri-y single, high flow cat, second bung with Innovate WB MTX-L .
Old school SBC carb guy, I've been using pre-burned chips, need to pick/try directions, I'm seeing tons of good information here, getting hopeful I will be able to keep GM ECM.

The first place I recommend starting the "Tune" learning process is to come up to speed data logging with TunerPro RT. Attached are TunerPro RT .adx and .xdf files. I also attached a stock .bin file (5.7 liter / 700R4) Broad Cast Code (BCC) AWLB.

I need to get a usb/serial converter, I have the serial/aldl cable, I'll give it a try. I captured some logs a while back when the previous 383 engine was in there, but the data didn't mean anything to me, I don't remember which program I used.
I'll grab those files, I have no idea how to plug updated files into the chip, first things first like you say, log data.
Also I'm not finished installing MTX-L and don't know how to pull data from it and aldl at the same time to make use of it, at least I'll be able to look at it while driving and know real-time where AFR is off.

I'm not a huge fan of the 1614299 ECM. It's not well supported. If it was my vehicle, I would upgrade the 16197427 PCM http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/showthread.php?303-16197427-PCM-Information-0D and http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/showthread.php?256-7427-install-first-impressions

The 16197427 PCM is normally used for either 4L60E or 4L80E, but can be set up for manual trans or non-electronic trans (700R4, TH350, TH400). The MTX-L AFR information can be configured for real time WBO2 into the 16197427 data log. The 16197427 is affordable and supported much better than the 1614299 ECM! I've made plug-n-play adapters to convert from the 1614299 ECM to 16197427 PCM.

There is a fairly complete hack and matching XDF floating around that I use to tune them. I much prefer the 299 to the 7747. The 7427 is a better unit than the 7747 or 299.

That being said the 299 is VERY EASY to tune, easier than a 7747 IMO.

thanks for the feedback, I have 2 299s and I think a 7747, and one from a 1989 stick vehicle. I'll look into 7427 availability.

OMG there are a million 7427 available, do I need to be concerned with the four digit cal code, or is that overwritten when tuned? if they offer more range and options I think I'll grab one.

You need one out of a 5.7L V8 or atleast a memcal from a 5.7L V8. The knock filter and LHM settings will be wrong if you were to use a V6 or 305 memcal.

Thx, I'll keep that in mind.

BTW, WBO2 is installed, currently running 299 with stock chip, 14 psi w/ 65# injectors, rich in open loop, mixture not half bad in closed loop cruise. Leans a tad rich, 14.5 with crossovers at cruise. Narrow band sensor attached to ECM is in the left header, heater not hooked up yet, mixture as picked up by WB is rich at idle, appears NB falling asleep.

Logging must wait until a misfire, which seems to start out as sporadic at 2500RPM but becomes a dead jug at 3000 RPM and up is figured out. New coil, wires, cap rotor next. Real noticeable with a standard trans.

If you are running long tube headers and 02 sensors in the collectors, your primary o2 sensor needs to be a 3-wire heated design. If you are running a 1-wire sensor without heater it can cool down too much at idle, become inacurate and then stop cross counting at all.

yeah I put in a heated one, as recommended by Harris, but never connected the heat, next on list.
Tri-y headers with single exhaust from Stans, high flow cat, etc.
I'm at the do it yourself point with tuning now though.
