From 1project2many: Please note that the original post was made in May of 2014. Latest updates begin on P. 4.

Mark asked that I let the list know he was admitted to the hospital for surgery this afternoon. This is unexpected and I'll provide more details when I have them. He mentioned that he's been helping some people with tuning. I'm not sure of the details but if there's a situation that needs to be resolved immediately, I'll offer whatever services I can to help until Mark's back on his feet. In the meantime, please everyone send some good karma Mark's way.

damn that's bad news, he was doing so much better.

i suppose health is one of those things that usually gets worse just as soon as it seems like you're out of the woods.. but that really makes me sad, 'cause this guys karma gauge is pegged at 10,000rpm. life isn't fair.

the fact that he continues to give a shit about tuning and this forum, and keeping us in the loop when he's going through so much heavy stuff is amazing to me

what a guy.

we should all pitch in and get him something nice when he's out of the woods again, so he knows how much we appreciate. any ideas?

Update:

I spoke with Mark tonight. It sounds like he's got some healing to do. He tells me they had to fly a couple of specialists in from opposite parts of the country to undo what he just had done last month. Seems there was tissue failure and other symptoms contrary to continued existence. So now there's a couple of months of healing, and then they'll redo what was done and now undone. He's going to try and get his laptop during the next few days and if he's up to it he'll pop in here for a bit.

He's extremely concerned about making things right with a couple of people who paid for tunes and haven't received the goods. I'd like to offer, again, to help out anyone in this situation. Whether it be working on delivering a tune, delivering a message to Mark, or what have you, I'd like to help Mark by ensuring this is one issue he doesn't have to worry about. Please contact me if you're in this situation and looking for resolution or want to pass a message on.

For everyone else, I mentioned that we're all wishing Mark the best and hoping for a good recovery. He's really glad to have his friends here and sends thanks for everything. Hopefully he'll be able to chime in himself in the near future.

FWIW, I'd like to do something nice for Mark since he's done so much for this site and helped so many people. It's always interesting to meet your internet friends in person and put faces to names and I'm thinking maybe a "group photo" of sorts might be a neat way to remind him we're here. Anyone interested in contributing a photo or image? It doesn't have to be you in person, just something you'd like to send his way that we could put with a bunch of other photos on a board. Or maybe someone has another idea?? I'm open to suggestions.

This is what makes this board and Mark incredible.

BarryThis forum and all the people in it are what make it inedible!!! I'm just One Small Part.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers! Things are going well considering such a turn around failure in first surgery. Doctors are baffled but they are all in aggreement that this will turn out well. Just going to be some time for the heal so they have good stuff to work with.

I'm not going to be much help in meantime, very weak and tired. I do try and read here each day. Will post when I can. You guys just keep it going for us all, I'm only a small piece and it's all of you that makes it work for all of us.

Gregs78cam stopped by yesterday to say high and it was a nice visit, he'd said he felt out of place and didn't know what to say... except "Man I can't believe how much weight you lost? I said... "Let's talk cars like we always do!" We laughed and had some fun. Thanks Greg.

I believe my customers are taken care of. If I missed someone I am very sorry and will fix what ever needs to be done immediately! E-mail me at mark at eagle-mark.com or give me a phone call at 208 704 zero 27 zero

hey thats awesome to hear man

you've built quite the community here, i think this is the last place left in the online realm that gives a crap about obscure fuel injection projects, rigging up whatever to whatever even though it shouldn't be there.... especially since monodax died off. i hope you realize how much we all appreciate what you've done, and the people you've brought together

i hope you know that we'll all be ok if you need more time for yourself than this forum... you deserve a serious break, i know you already have backup around here, but if you ever need any help with anything, whatever it might be, i'm there for ya, as im sure others are

Update 8/16/2014
I've brought this thread back because Mark called me last night and asked me to relay some information to the list.

Some of you may have noticed that Mark hasn't been posting much lately. Well, for a while now he's been experiencing symptoms that resemble a stroke including lack of sensation and muscle response on the right side of his body which has made typing, among other things, difficult. Apparently he's not in a high risk group for stroke so he was sent in for a CAT scan on Thursday with some expectation that it would show a clot or something that had resulted from the surgeries in May. If you remember, those surgeries were to remove cancerous tissue from Mark's throat, which the doctors reported they'd done successfully. The CAT scan, however, revealed a different story. Unfortunately the doctors are now reporting the cancer spread. The problems Mark's experiencing are due to a metastatic tumor in his brain. As of last night he didn't know if the tumor was operable, or if there was another course of action available but I know doctors were working on it because our conversation was cut short by an incoming call from a doctor.

Mark said he watches and reads the list every day even if he's not able to do any typing so please keep the prayers and well-wishes coming. Mark's a great guy and this is a helluva blow so let's make sure he knows where he stands with us. When I get details or updates I'll be updating this thread so stay tuned.

Hey Mark, just wanted to say hi. Make sure you keep them Nurses in line, or I'll have to come down there and teach them how to do it. Sorry, I wont be as fun to look at, unless you are into 6'4" 250lb men with crew cuts and hairy backs.

Seriously though, if ever a physician or nurse talks over your head, or you dont understand something simply ask again. You have every right as a client to be treated with compassion, and to take as much time from their schedules as you need. They work for you. Most health professional are great, but some need to be taken down a notch.

I will share with you my most favourite physician/patient interaction.

I was working with a patient at their bedside with the curtain drawn. The male doctor comes to the door of the 4 bed ward room I was working in and knocks (at least he knocked) and said Mr. Soandso, its Dr. SoAndSo. I replied"We are in here and I will be finished in just a minute"
Just then the physician pulls back the curtain walks through and starts talking quickly at a time when my patient was exposed and their concentration was elsewhere.
The patient said" Just a second doc, as you can see I'm busy".
The doctor seemed irritated, and continued to talk.
I finished my procedure, cleaned up quickly, regowned and recovered my patient. And was gathering my things preparing to leave the bedside, when the patient says in the most clear and condescending voice voice:
"OK sir, now that my excellent nurse has removed his fingers from my anus and has finished his excellent work, I can now
have a conversation with you. Lets talk about education, I understand that you have a doctorate in medicine, and apparently you graduated with honours in being an asshole."

I literally had to bite the inside of my mouth as I pulled the curtain behind me as I left. It didnt help that the other 3 patients in the ward room were literally laughing out loud.

The patient was a Professor that works at a nearby University. He was also a doctor, he was a PhD having his doctorate in philosophy. Apparently his philosophy that day was to put that rude physician in his place.

Anyways I hope you never get a rude doctor like that one, but I hope the story brightened you day even for a second.

Mark best wishes to you and your family.

peace
Paul

Mark, we've only emailed once or twice but my thoughts and prayers are with you. This year my wife almost drowned trying to save her friend that did drown. I have another young friend who has serious lung cancer (never smoked even) and an aunt who has brain cancer (but is in remission!)- and another good friend who has something like ALS (just diagnosed) and a mother in law with Parkinsons-- so life kinda sucks sometime and it has been a crappy year for many of us. I am ready for 2014 to go. Hang in there and fight hard. Know that people you don't even know are holding you in their thoughts and prayers. You are not alone. KV.

I am one of the customers of EagleMark. I got the starter tune from him, and he is now in the hospital. Maybe you or someome else can help me. My vehicle is a '94 chevy truck with 350 tbi...460LE trans. I recently replaced the engine with a used '97 L31 roller cam engine and L98 heads from a third gen camaro (one of my stock swirl port heads was cracked). I have replaced the fuel pump and increase fuel pressure to 15 psi as recommended by EagleMark. The truck runs fairly well with the new tune once it is warmed up. When I first start it the engine rpms surge between 500 to 1200 rpm and sometimes stalls. When I put it into drive it settles down some, but it is still there. A few times it has tried to stall on me pulling off from a stoplight. Once it warms up it idles steady at about 500 rpm. I have only communicated with Mark thru his personal email and phone and I don't want to bother him right now. I hope he is doing ok and has a complete recovery.
Thank you in advance.

I feel encouraged after I recently spoke with Mark on the phone. I called Mark wanting to schedule a visit with him again, my last visit with Mark was about a month ago. It was tough to see Mark struggle with daily tasks! During our brief phone conversation a few days ago, Mark shared with me that he might be released from the hospital this coming week. I know we all hope / pray that Mark has a speedy recovery, and are eager for his return to the board. I've offered to be Mark's keyboard when we get together next. Update:

I spoke with Mark last night. He's back at home and sounding better than the last time we spoke. Sounds like the Dr's think they got the cancer out so now it's a matter of waiting to see what comes back. He tells me he's starting to get some sensation back in his hand but he's not able to do any typing yet. He's also tired frequently which won't surprise anyone who's seen what battling cancer really involves. His up time is limited. He says thanks to everyone who's been posting and sending notes. He's got hope and he's looking forward to being able to post again.

I spoke with Mark last night. He's back at home and sounding better than the last time we spoke.

mark is obviously built tough.. few cracks in his block and a few loose bearings, runnin' a bit rough, but he always seems to make it back home

really good news, makes my day

I received a phone call from Mark yesterday evening.:jfj: Marks voice has greatly improved since we last talked a few weeks ago. To be honest, I got goose bumps up and down my arms as I was listening to him update me on how his health has slowing been improving since his brain tumor treatment.

The brain tumor treatment was very tough on Mark, he temporarily lost the ability speak and the ability to get out of bed by himself. Mark will require some nursing care and physical therapy in the coming weeks.

Mark mentioned he felt both emotionally touched and humbled by the well wishes, support, and prayers the members here at gearhead-efi.com have sent his way. Mark is now able to use his computer, and is logging into gearhead-efi.com. Feel free to sent Mark a PM and share your thoughts, I'm sure he would like that. It might be several weeks before Mark can regain full control of a keyboard to relay to a PM or post replies.

Well things are going so well it looks like I'll be going home next week. All the treatments and PT has been great, complete success everywhere. God must want me around a lot longer then expected when this started. Just a few months ago I was told I had about a month or so, can't operate on that part of brain, was told to my wife not me. That doctor has been let go!

Gamma Knife has a 90% success rate and my results seem to be higher with their new machine. http://www.gkspokane.com/

Still using a walker but more till I get my strength back Im walking fine. Hand and arm are doing well and can type again, can't seem to find any memory loss...

Man what a year this has been! Thanks for all the prayers and support.
