Ok Guys here it is. I am helping a guy disable his vats on a 1996 3.1L buick skylark. THe vats module in the dash has failed and he needs it deleted.

All I did was change the vats slider under system parameters. The positions are:

0 = Enabled
1 = No Light
2 = Disabled

I slid the slider to the 2 position and the vats seems to still not be disabled. Could someone please walk me through anything I might be missing. I contacted tunercats and he told me to try position 1 but I will be unable to test it as I do not have the car here.

Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.

So you agree that position 1 will probably handle it along with the dtcs turned off? Thats what im gathering.

from what i understand, the 96 A-bodies were PASSLOCK and used the instrument cluster as the reading module, along with sending the "password" to the PCM to indicate a good key is in use.

does it also have the starter disable relay that the PASSKEY I/II applications do? i'm not seeing it in the diagrams i've looked through.

I have looked for diagrams to answer some of these questions myself. I have not been able to find any and unfortunately I do not have access to alldata at the moment.

I have a bunch of information on the V6 VATS

First is that GM used 3 1/2 different VATS on these V6 cars --> these are not settings
#1 is VATS 2
#2 is Passlock
#3 is PK3
#3.5 is PK3+

VATS 2 on 3800 F-body's disables the starter signal and is not an input to the PCM
VATS 2 on most other cars send out a signal on 229 circuit to enable the fuel
Passlock on most V6 cars disables fuel, but when the PCM started to control the starter it then controlled the starter. This is Serial data.
PK3 & PK3+ work similar to each other. This system is serial data and disables both

From the factory you can see that they had multiple settings. These are not as the way TC has them labeled

Please fill in the attached VATS document with the setting you find from the factory and known good disable settings
My copy on the house PC must have more filled out

It is an xlsx file
2010 excel file. I had opened it with MS Excel 2010 and saved it as a xls so I could post it. I guess it didn't want to open for you. It opened in my 2010
