help! dont know where to start

:mad1:I have been reading a pile of info on this site but it all starts out over my head. Where should I start with a 90 5.7 tpi motor? I have a chip that alows the motor to run. I have all the equipment from moats to read and burn new chips. I cant get the programs to work with windows 8. Is there a place for the new guy thatt knows nothing about this?

TunerPro does work with WIndows 8... but I don't know anyone who likes Windows 8 yet... and until they fix it so it works like an Operating System for a laptop and not a tablet I'm not getting it...

EagleMarkthanks for the responce. I was 8 years old when the 56 came out! I have owened a couple! we had the motor running tonight and was able to wright a new chip, I bought a prom AUJP 1350 bin, ecm# 1227730. made some changes to the tune, have a long way to go. yes I have read all the links you mention. we are not able to use the scanner option and dont know why. we are getting a code 51 bad chip???? thats where we gave up for tonight. The car ( 1950 chevy coupe) is giong for paint on Sunday. I may have a obd1 scan tool here on sat from a gm dealer to see if it will scan.

Error 51 can happen from a bad burn chip, mis installed etc... won't get data with that code... well, when you turn key on, does it blink and stay on till you start it? Then go off?

I just checked the light comes on, goes off when started then back on and stays on. my mechanic thinks one of the pins are in the wrong place on the Ron Frances test port or the moats plug has a wire on wrong place. we have a Teck one scanner on its way here from a dealership and should be able to look at the wire setup and see witch one is wrong if any. that plug was pre wired from R F. this car has been a 9 month build and im so glad to hear it run. Useing Tunnerpro rt program.

Useing Tunnerpro rt program.I doubt it's the Moates cable? But on the ALDL port data comes from Pin E for 160 Baud and Pin M for your 8192 Baud and a ground.

Your CEL is working right but since it comes on when started you have a code set...
