I posted this info in my intro thread, but I figured it would be more useful here...

I've made a pinout sheet for GM obd2 V6 PCMs, I'm working on editing out the typos here and there, so please bare with me. So far, I've used this pinout, along with a L36 5 speed Fbody bin to make my 5 speed 3500 swap work correctly(hopefully...)

the PCM's these pinouts are derived from support a variety of systems and accessories, including:

FWD and RWD automatic Transaxles/Transmissions
Manual Transmissions (3.8 F body)
DIS (3100, 3400 and, 3800 equipped vehicles)
Coil per cylinder (3.5 Shortstar)
DBW throttle (3.8 F body)
forced induction (3800 supercharged vehicles)

most of the info is from 1998-2002 V6 cars and minivans, including:

1998 L36 F body
2000 LA1 Grand Am
1998 L67 Grand Prix
1999 U body Van
2000 U body Van

I believe one pinout I have looked at has a typo, but I've been unable to verify 100% yet, and that is pin 58 on the blue connector.

I have been finding new pins mostly by accident lately, I needed a new pigtail for my PCM and the pigtail I yanked out of a van had pins my car pigtail didn't....

most of them were from comparing pinouts from cars with different parameters though.

Example:

L67 PCM will need pins for the Boost control circuit, where a LA1 wouldn't. RWD L36 PCM will have 3 o2 sensors, where a FWD L36/L67/LA1 would only have 2. this is also how I stumbled across the second knock sensor, and the clutch anticipate input. IIRC, this PCM also has capabilities to run a DBW TB, as the later L36 F bodies use DBW instead of a cable throttle, but I still need to verify that they use the same PCM first. To be honest though, ATM, it's very low on the list as I don't really care for DBW. the only thing that interests me about it is the additional inputs and outputs available.

I've also found some interesting software anomalies that I have yet to be able to explain as easily, like how this PCM has only been used behind V6's, yet has codes for cylinder 7 and 8 misfire available to be turned on in the programming.... are there injector drivers for two more cylinders in there somewhere?

tidbits like that make me wonder how hard it would be to get real coil per cylinder (Vs. DIS) on the V6 engines.

I'm pretty excited about getting started on hacking these systems, but I am a total newb, I have a ton of learning to do before I'm ready to start digging too deep into it. hardware is easy, but getting it to work... lol!

I found another application using one of the above mentioned part numbers, this time, it's the 3.5L "shortstar" engine that was most common in olds auroras. specific model years, 2001-2002. I also think I may have found where to get coil per cylinder ignition now... :thumbsup:

this could get interesting. anyone have a bin file laying around for a 2001-2002 olds aurora with a 3.5?

so far, my info show the LX5 uses a single 24x crank position sensor instead of the dual arrangement the 60V6 uses, and uses a cam sensor setup much like the 3800.

does anyone know if the cam position signal is the same between the 3800 and the 60V6?

keep in mind the Intrigues had the same engine starting in 99.

short version: PCM supplies individual signals for 6 coils, which are fed to two different ICMs.

1 cam sensor, 3 wire(so likely hall-effect) and 1 crank sensor, dual pattern, 6 wire(so likely hall effect). both of which are fed directly to the PCM. system can run with 1 crank signal, but both are preferred. losing cam signal would likely either stop the system from functioning or revert the ICMs into waste-spark.

a little update, what I thought was a typo with the grand am pinout probably isn't, as it has popped up again in the short* pinout, interesting tidbit though, the short* uses two class II serial outputs not one like most of the 60V6 or 90V6 pinouts I'd looked at... there are other differences, and I'll update the list later tonight when I have more time to work on it.

I'm going to try to yank a PCM tomorrow at the JY from a short* so that maybe I can get a bin file to look at. I'd be very interested to see if any of the software I have will recognize it, and what parameters are available to tune.

doesn't seem like it would be that hard, 12V power supply, a DLC, and a switch. I have an old computer PS, and IIRC, they are 12V right?

still working on it, added the "0411" for shits and giggles, and also added in the L67 pinout. next will be the 99-02 firebird, it should be a little different, as it uses DBW. we'll see.

ok, worked out a couple of typo's in the original chart, and added the 2002 firebird pinout. I also removed the 0411 from the original and created a second chart specifically for it. Next project will be to trace out all of the generic pin listings to get better definition.

Glad I could help. I kinda let this fall off of the face of the earth...

For interested parties, the GM LX9 V6 uses the same crankshaft reluctor as an LS1, while I haven't tried running an LX9 with an LS1 PCM, it may not be outside the realm of possibility.

I'm working on developing an external crank trigger to allow for the installation of a 24x LS1 wheel on a 60V6, using the LX5 "Shortstar" sensor, which has a dual 24x output, one high, one low.

My plan is to make an arbor to hold this wheel:
