The ones I got right were out of sheer luck. I simply guessed the more oddball sounding engine of the mutiple choice. I have no experiance with old engine like those.
Now if the test was on Jeeps, it would be a different story.....

I only got 76%. I got all the GM stuff minus the 348 since I didn't know there was a difference in dipstick location. I missed the 331 Mopar because I just didn't expect anyone to put that engine into a hotrod. And even though I've worked on Y block engines, I don't remember them using 2 bolt valve covers. Go figure.
I also missed the 413. I knew they came with a long intake, but AC???? Really?????? Must have idled at 950 rpm!

And yes, there should have been an AMC engine in the mix.

But what I really want to know is, how is it that only 81% of people recognized the Chevy smallblock????

Makes me want to make something similar with non-V8 engines.

You got 82% (14 right out of 17). But I have to admit that I used the shape of the alternator to choose between the major manufacturers if I didn't know the engine. Some seemed pretty obvious (409 was the only W) and some you'd have to know (409 vs. 348). I didn't see any Buicks in there . But the alternator is a giveaway between Chrysler, Ford, and GM. And yes, the chevy smallblock (and there were two of them) I thought were practically giveaways!

Must be different for everyone. I got a nailhead on my test and man, after hearing one of them with open exhaust rev up in a slingshot, they're hard to forget!

I was thinking about that too, but with small single/twin cylinder engines (like found on yard equipment and generators).

The Nailhead was on there. I was thinking of the 350 X engine or the 455.
