The 95s were a bit tricky it depends if it has an obd 1 or an obd 2 connector. Either way it will most likely run on the obd1 protocol whether it has the obd2 connector or not. Tunercats y cable will cover both of these http://www.tunercat.com/cables/aldl.html

This cable will not work on anything later than 95.

95s could get either connector, but very few 95 applications actually used an OBD2 protocal. what are you working with?

I've never seen a 95 TBI truck with an OBDII connector, just some 1995 LT1 cars.

There's very few scantools that will do both. The one I have will, AutoXray 7000.

There's always a cable to laptop and software...

Im with Eagle Mark. I have never seen an obd2 connector on anything except a handful of 95 lt1 cars. Its always nice to have both though if you can spare the extra for the y cable just in case you ever run into a 95 lt1 car and dont want to butcher the connector.

To answer your question about the program there are very few scanners that will do both as Mark said. If you are just wanting to be able to do obd1 vehicles or your vehicle more specifically its hard to beat the data that datamaster can provide. http://www.ttspowersystems.com/DataMaster_downloads2.html

Just find your vehicle and give it a try before you buy it.

If you arent wanting to be tied down to just that vehicle then efi live v4 is another option although I have never used it and can not speak for it. http://www.efilive.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48&Itemid=133

You can use the cable listed above with either.

I am sure there are others floating around but those are just two I know of.

the 16 pin connector got alternated in certain vehicles starting in some 93s, i think. it's odd to see them that early, but they're out there.

94, it was a bit more common, 95, you have about a 50/50 chance for a given platform/powertrain combo to have either connector. there were some 95s that ran full-fledged OBD2 computers though.

http://www.obdii.com/connector.html

the 95 3.8 F-bodies and some 95 4.3 S/T trucks.

EDIT: the 95 2.3 J-bodies are also mentioned... i don't have much info on them though.

No that would be for datalogging only. You would have to use something like tuner pro or tunercats to program the computer or more specifically the chip. You would also need a chip burner from moates or tunercats.

Here's how to look up the files for TunerPro and your truck:

TunerCat and Datamaster are excellent programs and better for some vehicles that have not been developed by the open source community. But both programs will cost you, then each additional vehicle will cost you. Your truck is one of the best documented vehicles available in TunerPro RT for $39 you can do it and all.
