Hi everyone,
I have a 95 s10 I swapped a 5.7 TBI into. The pump in the S10 fuel tank is for a CPI motor and runs at 55-62 psi. I have an external regulator in the feed line before the TBI unit set to 13 PSI. The regulator returns to the tank. I cut the metal return after the TBI and capped it.

Will this burn up the fuel pump in the tank or cause any other issues? I am trying to avoid pulling the bed off or drop the fuel tank to put in a TBI pump.

Thanks!

Did you eliminate the Throttle Body Fuel Pressure Regulator?

I did not, I will put that in. Do I have anything to worry about with regulating the pressure on the pump down from 60 to 13? I was afraid I might dead head it or get it hot, but I guess with the return back to the tank it is fine?

I’ve used the stock TBI fuel pressure regulator with TPI rated fuel pumps, like the Walbro 5CA400HP. I didn’t see a need to switch to an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator when using TPI rated fuel pump.

According to the Walbro website, the Walbro 5CA400HP is a direct replacement for the S10 CPI fuel pump too.

Installing the TBI fuel pressure regulator block off is a good plan.

Oh, if the stock TBI regulator can handle 60 psi then I would rather use that instead of the cheap eBay regulator I have.

Hiya,
You're missing the point. We used vortec pumps(58psi) to replace the tbi pumps all the time, the regulator is what controls the pressure, not the pump. A 60psi CAPABLE pump will still make tbi pressures using the stock regulator unless the pump has a huge volume difference and the regulator cannot bypass enough at idle.
