Ok so a few things I’m trying to figure out I swapped a 94 lt1 4l60e into my 78 el Camino motor seems to idle a bit to high around 1200-1300 at idle in drive and about 1500-1600 in park I have no vacuum leaks and tps tests correctly also have a few transmission issues but mostly tied to the vss not being connected to the speedometer but the idle issue not sure if it’s a tuning issue

More questions than answers. If you have access to the datastream see what your IAC (idle air control) counts are. This is assuming you are a DBC (drive by cable) system. IAC count should be about 30. If it is zero that you have a vacuum leak because your computer is trying to command zero amount of flow through your IAC valve.
To confirm that your IAC is actually closed, there is a small orifice by passing your throttle plate that the IAC uses to bypass the throttle plate to control your idle speed. Disconnect your mass airflow sensor and remove the intake duct, then start your car. It might take a little bit but should eventually, within about one minute, start to idle reasonably. Then you can take your finger and plug this orifice and if the idle speed drops to normal the computer is either commanding it open or the idle air control is stuck, broken, wiring is incorrect or the PCM is defective.
DBW (drive-by wire) is a whole different topic.
Another thing that can cause high idle is coolant temperature. Look at your datastream and see what ECT is, -40° indicates an open circuit.

Thank you great info and gives me somewhere to start I’ll try that later today and yes it is DBC I’ll look at my data stream and see what the IAC count is and ECT

On another note I’m still having some trouble with the transmission not shifting properly stays in second and tcc won’t lock up using flash hack I can command the tcc to lock up and put it in 4th gear that way i need to add a resistor to the vss wire from pcm to switched 12v that’s what Dana said over at lt1 wiring back when he did this harness and tune since I’m not running it to a speedo so worst case scenario I have a th400 to throw in but if I go that route do I need to disable all transmission controls in tuner pro or somewhere else

I do not have much experience with the transmission yet, still trying to get mine perfected. I can share my bin file with you but it is for a 603 operating system. I have a 408 cu in LQ9 LS with a 4L60E transmission.

Thanks this solved it  your the man iac count was all over the place did what you said plugged it and idle dropped. I have a few extra spare parts I swapped the iac with a used one I have and that fixed the issue. Now I’m wondering if that somehow affected my transmission and it not shifting correctly

So back to the transmission it’s not shifting right sometimes it will shift to 2nd or 3rd but everything is off I know my gear ratio that the tune originally had was for 3:42 now it has 3:08 with a smaller tire so not sure if my shift points are out of wack or if it’s internal issues with the transmission

when you change gearing there are all these vss based transmission tables that need to be corrected. you need to do some math and find the percentage difference between old road speed and new road speed and correct those tables. the commercial tool tunercat has a built in tool that does that for you, or you do it by hand in tunerpro.

for example there is a table called up/down shift points and it is in MPH. so if it thinks you're going 30mph and you're actually going 35mph (probably pretty close to reality with that change) then the shift will happen at the wrong time.

Ok hopefully I can figure it out wasn’t there a site out there where I can plug in my gear ratio overall wheel diameter and transmission type and get all of those numbers or maybe I’m making that up i. My head but I thought I heard something like that

The more I know the more I don't know. If you go to transmission there is this a item name "pulse per mile" that sets your actual speedometer calibration. It is much better if you set your final gear ratio first. Then I take my actual speed from the GPS at least 60 mile-per-hour and then my indicated speed from the speedometer and divide the two and see what percentage it is off. Then take the "pulse per mile" (will be 20,000 or so) and divide it by the same number. In other words if your speedometer reads 66 miles an hour high at 60 it is reading 10% fast, you take your pulse per mile and remove 10% ( 20,000 - 2,000 = 18,000) I hope this makes sense, Jeff

I’m using tuner pro so do I need to input my gear ratio anywhere or is it just those tables that I’d have to tweak for shift points the tune isn’t stock I sent the ecm out years back originally it was from a 94 Camaro but now it’s in a 78 el Camino I can also put up my bin on here if that helps at all

There's no gear ratio entry on this PCM. It's just the tables you were told about earlier. Shifting on the 4L60E is handled by speed-based tables. You change the speeds, it'll change the shift points. You have to do some math to determine what speeds you need to use based on what RPM you expect for each gear.

I’m going to just throw this th350 in the car can someone point me in the right direction of turning auto trans functions off or manual on tuner pro to run the th350

if you're using my EEX XDF there is an automatic transmission flag called 'automatic trans enable' you can just turn it off.

you'll need to monkey with the VSS stuff and idle stuff

your ecm wont do electric lockup anymore if you have such a converter in your TH350

but imo the 4l60E is WAY better than a th350, you are making a mistake. electronically controlled transmissions are great.

tell me you aren't changing it just to avoid learning to tune

To be honest that’s part of it haha just want to get this long overdue project on the road I had the tune done a few years ago and barely got the car going the 4l60e wasn’t going into 3rd or 4th sometimes it would if I jumped on it tcc would never lock up I couldn’t figure it out and the place that did the tune is no longer around not sure if the problem comes from the gear ratio and wheel size being different than what the tube was for

I’m eventually going to go back to the 4l60e I’m going to rebuild it soon as soon as I’m done with another project so for the time being wanted to throw in one of these other transmissions in I can’t seem to find the enable transmission feature on tuner pro

Ok so got the trans in disabled the Automatic transmission controls now to find a mechanical to electric speedo conversion that puts out the 40 ppm the ecm needs for the vss everything I find is 8k ppm I read some say I can use a vss from a 1990 pick up but not sure how that works
