GIVING UP ON JET DST FOR 1997 CAMARO LT-1 WHAT IS THE BEST TO TUNE WITH?

I've had it with my JET DST as it stopped communicating with my ECM. I tried 3 different ECMs thinking I had a brick
and of course there is no customer support. Good news is I am getting a full refund from where I bought it over a year ago!

My challange to all is what is the best? HP does not support me vechicle.

I want to buy the whole package, software and cables.

Your help is greatly appreciated. RK.

The only options are jet and tunercat. Tunercat is too expensive now to get.

Some guys are working on a free reflash program, but it is still being developed.

Is'nt Tuner Cat the same as JET DST POS?

I have a feeling that I,m gonna go old school 502 and be done with it.

Its not to expensive if it works.

2k+ was the last time I have seen it.

The main difference is with tunercat you get extensive support, while with jet you are on your own.
Do you have a pic of that jet POS, they might have changed something with the hardware.

You can also switch to 94-95 pcm which have very good support already.

0411 swap it. 0411 will run great without a cam sensor. Use the factory crank sensor and use the opti for the distributor function. Hook the ignition control module up to the 0411 just like you would an Express van. Load the Express van tune and tune with HP Tuners or EFI Live.

Might be a hack way to some, but I put a LT1 in an Astro van a couple years ago for a friend and it ran great. Set the cam sensor and crank correlation codes to flag silently and remove the SES flag from those codes.

I was actually suprised how well the aluminum head LT1 with a CC305 cam ran on the stock van tune. Needs some fueling and timing adjustments to make power but it had flawless driveability.

Just interested in a better programming option with my OBD11.

TunerCAT IS JET DST, except for the VIN logging, and the near total lack of support. TunerCAT sold it to JET.

I thought I said that I was sticking with OBD11 and want the best programming software for it. Let me re-check my post and see if I was clear on what I wanted........... Yes, thats all I asked for, not some more change this modify that.

Well best of luck to you bud, you are going to need it with an attitude like that around here. The 2 tuning softwares for that platform are one in the same and the Tunercats OBD2 can no longer be bought separate from a Moates Roadrunner.

I believe JET makes their own communication interface whereas TunerCat uses the AVT product. I'm not sure if the JET (TunerCat)software will communicate using the AVT, or if it will "handshake" with either.
_LT1, where are you located?

As I said before, since you asked how to best tune your LT1. The easiest path is to repin the harness for an 0411, use your existing 4x reluctor and factory ignition system. OBD2 and easy to tune, well defined PCM using the Express van tune. While you are at it delete the EGR or just leave it there for visual purposes. I actually got the idea for it from this guy when I swapped that factory 0411 equipped Astro van. 2-3 hours of harness repinning and it will run like a different car.

there is absolutely nothing out there that is truly good to tune your ecm

im working on a flash tool but it will take ages to complete at this rate

even when its ready it wont be a thing you buy in a box that just works

its an obscure 2 year only ecm that people never made cool stuff for because the ls1 was just around the corner

thats why so many people plug the obd-i ecm in there and call it a day

Some of us have to be OBD2 compatible for inspection. Which is why I use the 0411 Express van based setup.

I was faced with the same problem with my 97 Express. The 96 and 97 PCMs can only be tuned with Jet DST or Tunercats. Tom aka Haulin@$$ was fairly local and had helped me years ago with his Tunercats setup to get a decent tune in a spare black box. Once I was ready to mod beyond that PCMs capability as it was flashed, I 0411 swapped. There is really not much to choose from if you want a good tune. I have since acquired Tunercats OBD2 and have full flashing abilities with it. But it does not offer datalogging. Have to use generic OBD2 datalogging. I use OBDLink software for that.

For emissions reasons the Astro van owner friend of mine wanted to retain EGR. We made an adapter plate to install the 4.3s linear EGR onto the LT1 manifold, wired it up and enabled it. EGR worked like it worked in the Express van and the emissions monitor was "Ready" after the tuning was 100% complete.

The other LT1 swap I did was into a 1995 TBI truck. Used the GM performance carb intake manifold and a TBI adapter with a 454 TBI above it. That boosted torque for the heavy truck without giving up horsepower. Also allowed us to keep the 1 year only 4L60E. It also allowed us to use a rear distributor and bypass the malfunctioning optispark on the donor engine.
