Hey all,

It's been a few years since I've been on here but I'm starting a new TBI swap project. I'm building a 61 Impala 283/3 on the tree and have decided to install TBI for drivability/reliability. I pulled all my TBI stuff from a 1991 Chevy conversion van I scrapped. Last TBI project I did was a 307 sbc into an 86 Astro van and thanks to the vast wealth of TBI knowledge on here, it worked out really nice.

Looking forward to digging into another one.

Did the 1991 Chevy Van have ECM 1227747?

I'm not sure; I'll have to check that.

Yep, that’s what it is.

Right on, thanks. When I did my Astro I did the chip socket change and added the ZIF socket. Worked out really nice to burn my own chips. I'm planning on doing the same for this one.

Thanks!
So this TBI system has a Fuel Pump Cycle Controller. I don’t recall that on the last TBI I set up. Anyone know anything about it?

Yep, that looks like it. Looks like they didn't all have it; I wonder if you can delete it?

you can just unplugged and it will work normally (default 2-3 second prime). they are also called a "hot start module" i guess used if you got vapor lock you could turn the key on and it would run cool fuel through the system.

Do I need to run a VSS on a manual transmission? I'm pretty sure the one I had in my 1986 Astrovan V8 swap didn't use one but I cant remember for sure.

There's been debate if the VSS is "nice to have" or "necessary to have"? Stalling at slow downs to stop lights / stop signs is not nice. The factory used a VSS with manual trans.

Makes sense; for that low of a price I'll go ahead and do it.

OK, so I've got it all together and running. Right now it just still has the stock chip and 350/auto trans program. It actually idles well until the engine starts warming up. Then the idle drops really low and it will pop through the throttle body sometimes on revving. I'm going to change this chip socket and use a program for a 305 manual trans and shutoff the EGR, but anything else I should be looking at as to why it's running rough when warm?

Got my PCM back from BoostedNW and after having to re-burn my chip a few times, relocating my coolant temp sensor, and tracking down a bad MAP; it runs like a champ! Thanks, Boosted! Great job and quick turnaround!
