I bought a new project, for a little bit anyway. Its got some of the right parts, just put together by morons. Its a pretty straight 1995 GMC with a 1997 l29 454/4l80e in it. Some shop put it in with a painless wiring swap harness but their install is embarrassingly bad. pcv crimp connectors and cut off wires everywhere. The harness wires in the picture were just stuffed in the corner, I pulled them out for a look. I think I am going to have to pull the swap harness completely out then clean things up and then reinstall. I am thinking about doing an 0411 ecm swap at the same time on the painless harness, I am not sure though. If I could get a complete harness from an obs c2500 l29 and swap that into the truck that would probably be a cleaner solution to do the ecm swap with. The truck actually drove down the freeway for 3 hours so its not totally helpless, but its not right tune wise at all. It sputters and hesitates then slowly gets up to speed. No communication at all with HP tuners scanner or my OTC.

So in doing the swap to a 12200411 computer instead of the black box it looks like I need to either switch OS'es and the base tune to the 2002 5.7 van that uses up 4 credits in HP tuners or just purchase a 0411 PCM that is already out of that year van and save one round of credits (only 2 to modify the tune) as the OS is already present. Am I missing anything? I do have the pinout spread sheet already.

The choice of the 454 engine makes it tough for me to give much advice. But with the 0411 PCM, I'd really try to avoid HP Tuners and stick with Tuner Pro RT if at all possible. The problem is that I can't remember ever seeing a stock GM BIN for a 0411 that had a 454 as an engine choice. You would be scaling everything up from a smaller engine size.

Its actually a very common swap. No there is no 454/0411 bin. They are using the 01-02 express van l31 2500 bin and scaling. Thank you for the tip. I used tunerpro on my 1995 G30 a few years ago. I did not realize it could support newer ecm flashing as the website only lists the older bins. I found a 02 express 2500 bin and will mess around a bit.

So far I have found the bin for the express van, but the 12212156 OS XDF appears to have some bugs and major errors from reading through the thread. http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/showthread.php?5894-2002-OS-12212156-xdf/page2 This is why I started using HPTuners a few years ago, it costs money but the bugs are worked out because people pay and they have a reason to fix them. The xdf for my 95 G30 van got the job done but there were some obvious bugs that complicated the process once in a while. If there is a fairly stable 12212156 XDF I missed let me know.
