I'm doing a LS swap from a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500. The PCM has the 12587811 OS. I want to remove the VAT's and I see there are no xdf for that OS. Is HP tuner my only option?

Or find someone that has that or Tunercat OBD2 to help. (wink) 06 ETC hardware is not compatible with the 04 OS that has xdf support. But just turning off VATS is just the tip of the iceberg as to what needs to be changed to do a swap correctly.

if you can down load the bin file you can use universal patcher to patch in a no vats. page 2 is the files you put in the patch folder. link here http://gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Injection/showthread.php?9616-New-LS1-Tuning-Tool-Universal-Patcher

Thanks for the replies and the universal patcher link, I ordered a HP Tuner a couple of days ago.

So i started an account to get more information on this - i have this OS (12587811) on my PCM for my 5.3. i was thinking of flashing a more common p59 (with pcm hammer/tuner pro) so i would be able to read/write but you are saying that wont work ... why? I'm having an issue with my computer going into limp mode - When i bought my motor and harness the seller installed a 'basic' tune for me. I'm thinking my issue is there, but i need to figure a way to read/write.

I used the HP Tuner and I was able to remove the VATS. I seen on you tube where someone cloned a PCM when no XDF was available, I think it may have been someone name the Driveway Engineer on You Tube. I didn't want to take a chance and brick my PCM.

For sure, im just trying to avoid buying hptuners, i already bought a obdxpro vt. im just curious why 2xls1 is saying i cant flash a more common 1mb bin and use that - his post is literally the only info I can find on the 04 bins not working for 06. I would like to find the information on that.

I have read that the 2003-2005 OS will work with the 2003-2005 TAC module and gas pedal. The 2006 was supposed to be updated and will not work with the 2003-2005 pedal or TAC module. The 2007 van and classic silverado TAC and pedal are different part number and may not be interchangeable. I know that you can flash a 2007 OS to the 2003 PCM. I believe you can flash a 2003 OS to a 2007 PCM. The 2003-2007 PCM`s are all mostly interchangeable with the exception that some support DBC and some don`t. The 2003 PCM was an intel flash chip instead of AMD. I have not had time yet to see if a 2003-2005 Operating system will work with a 2006-2007 TAC and gas pedal.
