Thanks for adding me, I am brand new to tuning vehicles myself. Looking forward to learning so that I can get my project on the road. Stock 5.3 with a 4l80e for now.

5.3 (4.8 pistons and Howard's rattler cam future)
4l80e
Stock 2.73 open rear (3.42 lsd future).

what's up with the 4.8 pistons? 4.10 rear gear is what you want with that overdrive and any kind of cam :)

4.8 pistons are the same as the 5.3 (L33/h.o.) engines and are flat-top, which I believe creates like a 10.2:1 or 10.3:1 compression ratio, all other things being the same IIRC.
Now I have something to study and did not feel like studying tonight. LOL!

Only difference in the 4.8 and 5.3 is the stroke, they have the same bore. I may put the pistons in without a cam and see if someone has a bin for the h.o. 5.3

What pcm are you using for your project.
If it is ,05 or later you may be stuck using HPTuners to tune. P01's and P59's have much more open source support.

Slightly off-topic:
L33s came with 'LS6ish heads' without the LS6 valvetrain yeah - the 799 casting?
706-casting heads would be a cheap upgrade.

If you already have better heads, disregard.

i have a 4896 p01 im planning to use, however its 9373372 OS so i'm pretty sure i need to swap OS to 12212156 or whatever is best. someone on the pcm hammer facebook said i need checksum plugins? idk what that means so any input or advice is great.

If you engine came out of a '05 it should have a harness for a P59.
Personally I would use a P59 with the '7603 OS which is more versatile depending on if you are using DBW, DBC, etc! If you are using a carb and just using the PCM for timing then the P01 would be fine. There are so many combinations that work well it is always interesting to see the solutions that come up.

The plugin being referred to can be found here:
https://github.com/joukoy/gm-checksum-plugins

I believe it was included in the last version of Tuner Pro RT, but I had already installed the plugin previously.

Here is a stock L33 (5.3 4L60E) with factory 4.10 gears. out of 06 Silverado. this one has 243 heads on it. the computer is newer but maybe the maps will help. Has factory electric fan settings.

rickky bobby, that is a 1263246 OS for a P59 (1mb ECU). The OP has stated he plans on using a P01 ECU. Your OS and related maps will be useless to the OP. Also, there is no .xdf available for that OS to use in Tuner Pro, and even attempting to use maps from it will totally mess things up badly!
