I tried to post this in the gearhead section but the page would not open.

In my LT1 to 79 Malibu swap I want to utilize the factory idiot light for overheating warning. In the PCM the fans are set to come on at 198 low and 210 high.

I can get an idiot sender with a 235 trigger for $15. I want to put it in the water pump where the oil cooler line was removed (currently plugged). Is a 235 trigger ok or will it be a nuisance? Also, is that location in the water pump good? According to flow diagram that location would be hot side returning to radiator. Pic attached

If ain't going to use gauge then best place is to use place where factory LT1 sender is located on driver side cylinder head between no 1 and 3 exhaust ports.

To clarify, I am using a mechanical gauge with the sensor in the drivers side head like you mentioned. So, the pump location is just down stream from that. Otherwise, hot just before entering the radiator. Am I correct in this thought? Also, I figure if my high fans setting is triggered at 210, then a warning light at 235 (hey dummy, look at the temp gauge!!) is reasonable. I’m not saying it’s time to panic at 235, but time to really pay attention. What do you think?
